Stages Of
Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer are categorized based on how quickly they spread and
how different they are from the surrounding prostate tissue. The
Whitmore-Jewett system is a common way of categorizing the cancer
stages.
Stage A
Tumor cannot be felt in physical examination. Cancer is usually
accidentally uncovered during other prostate surgery.
Stage B
Tumor can be felt in physical examination. A Prostate-Specific-Antigen
(PSA) blood test can confirm the presence of cancer.
Stage C
Tumor has spread beyond the prostate but is not in the lymph nodes.
Stage D
Tumor has spread to lymph nodes or other parts of the body, such as
kidney and bones.
The cancer stages can be determined by a number of tests including CT
scans, MRIs, or x-rays, or through more specialized imaging tests such
as bone scans.
